Jeff David, the new Consul General of Canada in Chongqing, discussed opportunities for Canadian businesses in southwest China including Chongqing and the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou at a business luncheon on March 7, 2018 in Toronto.
The shift resulted in two events in Vancouver in early February. A reception focused on connecting the educational institutions of the two countries, as well as promoting networking by alumni of schools with Canada-China links, took place on February 8 at Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) downtown campus. That was followed by a February 9 fundraising luncheon for Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC), a Vancouver philanthropic group that has put 845 girls through school since the organization launched in 2005.
A China-BC Networking Reception: Connecting Education, Business, and Government was held by CCBC’s BC Chapter, the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE) and the Consulate General of the PRC in Vancouver. This was the first BC Chapter event that highlighted the new CCBC education strategy.
HE Wei, the recently appointed Consul General of the PRC in Toronto, was the honoured guest speaker at a luncheon in Toronto. Mr. HE discussed the Canada-China business relationship and how businesses in Ontario can continue moving forward with their China strategies.
CCBC held a luncheon to update members on the leadership transitions announced at the 19th National Congress
of the Communist Party of China. Our Executive Director, Sarah Kutulakos, discussed who’s in, who’s out, and how these changes can affect Canadian businesses in China. Mr. Guy St-Jacques, former Ambassador of Canada to China, shared his perspectives on the implications for Canada as a result of these decisions and policies.
